Live Sound Operator, Audio Visual (AV), IT & Electronics Generalist

Job tasks include:

  • Operation/mixing of live sound in venues of various capacities (10 to 5000 attendees), including sporting events, performances, and news conferences.
  • Recurring setup and take-down of audio and AV equipment for sports events, corporate meetings, and hosting events (dinners, ceremonies). This includes projectors, TVs, microphones, sound systems, video systems, and computer equipment.
  • Installation, setup, and initial configuration of audio, audio-visual, scoreboards, displays, networking, and similar electronic equipment, including installing indoor wiring. Assisting with installation, changes and removals using copper or fibre optic cabling.
  • Troubleshooting, maintenance, and simple repair of AV Equipment
  • Vendor relations, product recommendation, capacity planning
  • Content Management for Scoreboards, displays, music playlists, etc.
  • Managing equipment inventory, ordering consumables, organizing, testing, sorting, documentation, record keeping
  • Client interaction, planning, scheduling
  • Assembly, disassembly, re-configuration and placement of portable scoreboards and displays, timing and scoring equipment and communications equipment for show jumping, professional soccer and hosting or marketing activities.


 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

 (including, but are not limited to)

  • Develop familiarity with equipment used at Spruce Meadows: Audio Mixers (digital/analog), amplifiers, powered, passive and 70V speakers, intercom (ClearCom), paging/music distribution (Barix, Dante), TV distribution and streaming software, conferencing systems, LED signage/scoreboards, telephony, and general office electronics.
  • Positively represent Spruce Meadows and interact appropriately if approached by a guest on the grounds. Customer service to our on-site guests, including athletes, is of paramount importance.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, including good oral English skills. As an international venue, additional languages are an asset (particularly French and Spanish). The working language for this team is English.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS


  • Experience in most or all of the types of tasks listed above.
  • Reliable transportation to and from work. There is no public transportation to Spruce Meadows.
  • Good computer skills. Candidates should be fluent in Outlook (Email), Word and Excel.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written English.
  • Ability to solve problems, adapt quickly and exhibit conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to work weekends and evening for events.
  • Ability to interact professionally and cordially with co-workers, clients, athletes, fans and guests.
  • Class 5 Driver’s License and a safe driving record.
  • Hold or be willing to pursue industrial certifications such as First Aid, CPR, Arial Platforms, Forklift (asset)
  • Additional language skills (asset)


CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT


Sporting events are held on weekends and evenings; you must be available to work weekends and evenings during events. Event dates are published months in advance and available on the Spruce Meadows website.  Overtime will be required during and immediately before major events. Work is in a fast-paced work environment. Successful applicants must be willing to work in a variety of different settings and must work well in both team and individual scenarios. The Spruce Meadows venue operates in all weather conditions, from early morning into evening.
