Update: City of Calgary Water Restrictions

August 29, 2024

Spruce Meadows once again confirms its full support and understanding of renewed outdoor water restrictions imposed by the City of Calgary as we excitedly approach our most prestigious tournament, the ‘Masters’, next week. While Spruce Meadows sits outside of City boundaries, we fully respect and will be compliant with the issued advisories. As we get set to welcome the world’s best show jumpers and their horses, as well as thousands of fans, from September 4–8, we will continue to rely on our own wells, pond water and irrigation systems to meet our needs, as well as those of our fans, athletes and horses, as we have since 1975.

Linda Southern-Heathcott, President and CEO, said: “We have openly supported the City of Calgary’s water restrictions since they were first imposed earlier this summer, and will continue to do so as long as necessary.

“I would also like to reassure the public that these restrictions will in no way dampen the incredible experience they can expect to have at The ‘Masters’, which will go ahead as planned, as we continue to make use of the storm water we independently harvest throughout the year.”

Spruce Meadows will be operating under the approved City of Calgary festival guidelines. As such, we will endeavor to continue to reduce water use by:

  • Providing bottled water
  • Making portable toilets available
  • Providing hand sanitizers to reduce hand washing
  • Increasing usage of cleaning methods that do not require water

We can't wait to see you next week at the 'Masters' from September 4–8, 2024. For more information on our tournament, please visit sprucemeadows.com/masters.
