*Training will take place on specific days in April 2023, with full time commencing May 1, 2023. Successful candidates may also be offered part-time casual work at other points in the year.

**Full time employment is not guaranteed between July 9 and August 28, however there may opportunity for limited shifts if there is interest.


This is a full-time position at 40 - 44 hours per week for $18.00 - $21.00 per hour, depending on experience, skillset and committed availability. Spruce Meadows is a world-renowned show jumping venue which holds several tournaments throughout the year. Events are held on weekends; therefore, you must be available to work weekends and some evening. Shifts will fluctuate to coincide with the Spruce Meadows Tournament Season. 


RESPONSIBILITIES (included, but are not limited to)

  • The set-up, take down and operation of timing equipment for the sport of show jumping. Equipment is used to time and score rounds of top-level international jumping events 
  • Basic troubleshooting of timing equipment and scoreboards 
  • Assist the electronics and technology team with set-up, troubleshooting, and operation of other computer and electronics systems, depending on ability and experience.
  • Timing and scoring are the focus of this position, however other duties may be assigned, including those that require manual labour, such as lifting, moving of equipment, cleaning, and assisting in the smooth operation of events.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively during all operations. 
  • Spruce Meadows is also the home of the Cavalry Football Club of the Canadian Premier League. The ability to assist with timing, scoring, and other technology issues during home games would be an asset.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Reliable transportation to and from work. There is no public transportation to Spruce Meadows.
  • Computer skills as a user, as timing and scoring is computer-based.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written English.
  • Ability to problem solve and exhibit conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to work many weekends and some evenings.
  • Ability to adapt quickly when in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to represent Spruce Meadows in a positive way and interact appropriately if approached by a guest on the grounds.

 

ADDITIONAL DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Class 5 Driver’s License and a safe driving record.
  • Familiarity with other electronics, such as audio, video, and networking equipment.
  • Current certificate in Standard First Aid & CPR Level C
  • Ability to speak a second language fluently


CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Work is in a fast-paced work environment. Successful applicants must be willing to work in a variety of different settings and must work well in both team and individual scenarios. The Spruce Meadows venue operates in all weather conditions, from early morning into evening. Weekend work will be required on most weekend days during the term of employment.
