In this competition, horse/rider combinations negotiate the course trying to go clear within the time allowed. For each jump knocked down, four faults are added to the score. If the horse refuses a jump, four faults are also added. If the horse refuses a second time, the combination is eliminated. Should the horse or rider fall or go off course, they are also eliminated. The Course Designer sets the time allowed in which the riders must complete the course. They are penalised one fault for every second over the time allowed. After the first round is complete, ALL ties for first place (usually clear rounds) return for a jump-off. The jump-off course is shorter and sometimes higher than the first round. Jumping and time faults are the same. The combination that has the fewest faults in the fastest time is the winner.

This is a speed competition in which horse/rider combinations complete a course where faults are converted into time. There is no time allowed in this type of competition. For every rail knocked down four seconds are added to the overall running time, six seconds for any refusals with dropped rails, and elimination for a second refusal or fall of horse and/or rider. The combination with the fastest overall running time is the winner.

The RBC Capital Markets Cup 1.50m capped off our Friday of the ‘National’ CSI5*, presented by Rolex - and the Irish were at it again.
After multiple strong showings last week to kick off the FEI tournaments at Spruce Meadows including a podium sweep, they had repeat performances today in the Recon Metal Cup 1.55m.
It was a déjà vu start to the ‘National’ CSI5*, presented by Rolex for Amy Millar of Canada. Just as she had done the previous week on opening day, Millar bested the rest of the competition and flew to victory aboard Christiano.
Over 230 horses completed the veterinary inspection (FEI Jog) this week in anticipation of competing in either the FEI 5* or 2* level competitions of the ‘National’, presented by Rolex.
