Spruce Meadows Co-Chair Nancy Southern and Cavalry FC captain and goalkeeper Marco Carducci have been named two of twenty ‘Compelling Calgarians’ by the Calgary Herald.
Each year, the city’s most prominent newspaper honours 20 remarkable Calgarians who are making a mark in our community, and beyond, and are worth keeping an eye on in the year ahead.
Nancy, who is also President and CEO of ATCO, was highlighted for her contributions to business; her support of military, veterans and Indigenous communities; and her widespread dedication to many causes close to Albertans.
In October, Nancy was named to the Alberta Order of Excellence, the Province’s highest civilian honour, for significant contributions to the greater good.
The following month, she became the first-ever Albertan to receive The Patriots Award from the True Patriot Love Foundation, for her support of Canada’s military, veterans, and their families.
This year, ATCO will be co-presenting partner of the Invictus Games in Whistler, the highly celebrated worldwide sporting competition for injured, wounded, and sick servicemen and women. ATCO will also continue in its role as presenting partner of Team Canada.
Meanwhile, Marco, who fronts Spruce Meadows’ Canadian Premier League soccer team Cavalry FC, was recognized for his exceptional leadership and setting a sterling example for youngsters in Calgary.
Marco, who helped take our team to victory in the CPL Final in November, has been a KidSport Calgary ambassador since 2019.
He is a passionate advocate and fundraiser for cancer research, having been diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2022 and now on the surveillance schedule.
Looking ahead, Marco and the Cavalry squad will take on Mexican side Pumas UNAM in round one of the 2025 CONCACAF Champions Cup this February.
Massive congratulations to you both, you make us proud!
