About the Leg Up Foundation

Mission and Vision

Our mission is to fully support initiatives that bring positive change to the lives of Albertans. The Spruce Meadows Leg Up Foundation is committed to supporting Education, Health & Wellness, Amateur & Grassroots Sport, Community, and Agriculture.

Since opening its doors in 1975, communities from Calgary, Alberta and Canada have supported the endeavours of Spruce Meadows. Spruce Meadows' mandate has been the commitment to returning that generosity by giving back to the community in meaningful ways. The Spruce Meadows Leg Up Foundation is the official charitable arm of Spruce Meadows, proudly formed in 2015.

The Foundation is committed to supporting education, health, wellness, amateur and grassroots sport and raises funds throughout the year for these key areas. We are proud of the fact that we support a broad range of initiatives from helping to stop childhood hunger, to families requiring emergency assistance, to Education of our youths. With your support, we are creating positive change and touching the lives of thousands.

We hope you are proud of the work that we do in the community because we could not do it without you. Thank you for your unwavering support of Spruce Meadows Leg Up Foundation and our events.

Education Programs

The Spruce Meadows Leg Up Foundation Education Program targets students in grades 4 through 6, focusing on various elements in the Alberta curriculum, including the ecosystem, animal learning with a special focus on the horse, and the environment. The program is offered at no cost to participating schools and has expanded from 6 days in 2017 to 10 days in 2018 and 2019 to accommodate as many students as possible. The participating students are able to see Spruce Meadows, enhance their learning potential by participating in a hands-on program and be exposed to a unique environment that they may not otherwise experience.

Supporting Community

While the foundation directly offers some of our own programming, most of our giving is to partner organizations that align with our mission and vision.

We support charitable groups that work within our pillars of Education, Community, Health and Wellness, Amateur and Grassroots Sport and Agriculture.  Our focus is on Calgary, Foothills County, and surrounding areas, but is not limited to these areas.

There are no deadlines for requests.  We receive requests throughout the year.

To APPLY for a donation, your organization must be a registered charity with the Canada Revenue Agency or a qualified donee as identified by the Canada Revenue Agency.  Please do not apply if these criteria are not met. The work of your organization must be in one or more of our pillars of Education, Community, Health and Wellness, Amateur and Grassroots Sport and Agriculture.

Once your application is received, we will be reaching out to you for your organization's Operating Budget and most recent Audited Financials.
