Spectacular ‘WestJet Evening of the Horse’ leads us into fantastic weekend to come.


‘Q’ Jumper: Irish Sport Horse EIC Cooley Jump The Q carries Max Kuhner (AUT) to a joint victory in the ATCO Electric Six Bar tonight, today’s final event, stunning the audience by clearing a massive 1.95m (6’4”) final fence. He tied with David O’Brien (IRL) on Ibera V/D Hagenhorst after four jump-off rounds.

Over and Staut: Kevin Staut (FRA) celebrates his first-ever victory at Spruce Meadows after twelve years of competing here, riding Beau De Laubry Z, to win the 1.60m Tourmaline Oil Cup. Second place went to Cian O’Connor  (IRL) and Fermoy, the only other horse-rider pairing from a starting group of 33 to make the jump-off on designer Leopoldo Palacios’ (VEN) challenging International Ring course. Harrie Smolders (NED) with Uricas V/D Kattevennen finished third.

First Edition: Conor Swail (IRL) and One Edition celebrate after winning the Paramount Resources Cup 1.45m. Canadians Bretton Chad, with Grandeur WP, and Alexander Grayton, on Ice Man Du Houssoit, rounded out the podium, coming second and third on the 12 jump, 14 effort course designed by Leopoldo Palacios (VEN).

Signs Of A Good Time

As always, Spruce Meadows tournaments are complemented by a huge range of entertainment events across the grounds for all ages. We also have super shopping with a number of incredible vendors in the Equi-Plex, where today hundreds of excited fans lined up to meet their heroes from all of the countries competing in tomorrow’s BMO Nations’ Cup: Canada, Germany, Great Britain, France, Ireland, Spain, and Switzerland.


Light-hearted: Legendary riders Steve Guerdat and Martin Fuchs of Switzerland are known as serious competitors on the ring, but that didn’t stop them from making funny faces during today’s BMO Nations’ Cup autograph signing, which drew hundreds of fans.

Foals’ Names Revealed

The three winners of this year’s TELUS Name the Foal competition, which  were revealed in an International Ring ceremony this evening:


Delight-foal: Navin Arora, TELUS Executive Vice President, with Name the Foal winners Isabelle Hébert (Edmundston, NB), Charmaine Steeves (Havelock, NB), and Lisa Ann White(Lethbridge, AB).
