Spruce Meadows (July 8, 2022) - The Scotiabank Cup 1.55M was the final competition on the International Ring Friday of the 'North American' Tournament. It was also was the final qualifier for the ATCO Queen Elizabeth II Cup taking place tomorrow. The challenging 532m track was designed by FEI Course Designer Peter Holmes (CAN). Three horse/rider combinations had clear rounds and advanced to the jump off - two of which were Kent Farrington (USA) aboard two different mounts.

Rising star Katherine Strauss (USA) was there to challenge the veteran rider (the pair dueled in the RBC Capital Markets Cup earlier in the season), but unfortunately a rail in the jump off left her in second place.

"There's a balance between the light modern sport and a bit of the old fashioned style jumping , that we see here (Spruce Meadows) where the horses get a lot of experience." Kent Farrington (USA) on the kind of sport to expect at Spruce Meadows.

Hilary McNerney (USA) wins the ATCO Cup

The ATCO Cup 1.50M started things off on the International Ring for Friday of the 'North American' Tournament. Over 40 competitors stepped through the iconic clock tower to take on the track designed by FEI Course Designer Peter Holmes (CAN) hoping post clear first rounds and advance to the jump off.

Twelve horse/rider combinations representing five countries made it to the jump off. Katie Laurie (AUS) and Mario Deslaurier (CAN) were tied at the top of the leader board with a time of 44.39s in the jump off but Hilary McNerney (USA) was determined to change that. Last to go in the jump off, McNerney pulled out all the stops to post an impressive clear round with a time of 43.92s taking the win.

The top five placed riders from this competition are now qualified for the ATCO Queen Elizabeth II Cup Grand Prix on Saturday, July 9, 2022.

Action on the North American Ring

It was a busy day on the North American Ring with three competitions spanning the 1.30M, 1.40M and 1.45M divisions. The ring started off welcoming over 70 competitors in the Maritime Travel Cup 1.40M. Of those competitors nine jumped clear in the first round to qualify for the jump off. Callie Schott of the United States had the fastest clear round in the jump off with a time of 37.54s taking the win.

The top five placed riders of this competition have now qualified for the Lafarge CSI2* 1.45M Grand Prix on Sunday, July 10 on the International Ring.

The McNerney Family Cup 1.45M was next up on the North American Ring. Fifty-four horse/rider combinations tackled the track laid out by FEI Course Designer Anthony d'Ambrosio (USA). Only seven posted clear first rounds to advance to the jump off. Jordan Coyle (IRL) aboard Centriko Volo sailed through the finish line in a time of 40.44s to secure their trip to the winner's circle.

The top placed five riders of this competition have now qualified for the Aviva Ovation Winning Round 1.40M on Saturday, July 9 on the All Canada Ring.

Over 75 entries were ready for the Purdys Chocolatier Jumper 1.30M to round out the day on the North American Ring. This immediate jump off competition had riders who jumped clear first round take a pause in the ring before heading right into the jump off. John Perez (COL) was able to do just that and posted a clear jump off round in a time of 32.22s to win the competition.
